Brighton has long been one of Europe’s best-loved seaside resorts, and in fact, was one of the first. In the 1750s, sea water cures became the fashion, resulting in the beginnings of seaside tourism, and turning the fishing village known as Brighthelmstone into what is now known as Brighton.
