Blackpool Tower: was erected in 1891, in imitation of Paris’ Eiffel Tower. At the time, it was the tallest building in England, at a height of 518ft. The Tower actually houses an aquarium, a ballroom and a circus. The Tower’s ballroom is famous for its Wurlitzer organ, played at one time by the renowned Reginald Dixon: the organ sits on a stage moved by pulleys, giving the impression that it rises magically from below.
Blackpool Zoo & Dinosaur Safari: is an award-winning park, located on more than 30 acres of natural parkland, surrounded by a number of lakes. The zoo is home to more than 1,500 animals, including exotic and rare species from around the world. You’ll see elephants and lions, otters and sea lions, zebras and tigers, kangaroos, monkeys and more. Play areas are set up for the kids, and the park features craft shops, a miniature railway and picnic areas – plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
Grand Theatre: also known locally as the National Theatre of Variety, was built in the Victorian style as designed by Frank Matcham. This massive venue seats 1,100 spectators, and hosts a full range of performing arts events – acting as Blackpool's community theatre, the opera house of choice for Lancashire, and the country's Theatre of Variety.
Pier: three piers are part of the Blackpool seafront. The North Pier includes a theatre, a small shopping arcade and also a small tramway. The pier’s old helicopter pad was damaged several years ago by a windstorm, subsequently collapsing into the Irish Sea. The Central Pier features attractions that were aimed at drawing workers and their families from mill towns in the area; and the South Pier, situated directly opposite Pleasure Beach, boasts a big theme park.
There are lots more rides and also plenty of places to eat and other attractions to keep the whole family happy. If the weather turns sour, you may want to try out the water attractions, such as the Sandcastle, or the slides at the Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool or the Caribbean Storm Treehouse.
Stanley Park: is a large park in the centre of Blackpool that is a great place to relax – particularly by its picturesque lake – or enjoy the leisure facilities, such as the putting greens.
