For those who prefer to sample what the town itself has to offer – the shopping is excellent, and the night-time variety shows can’t be beat.
Golf: excellent choices are available in a range of golf courses in and around Blackpool. You’ll find clubs that provide accommodation as well as golfing and other leisure activities, such as the highly-rated Devere Blackpool Golf Club; or more traditional facilities, such as Blackpool's North Shore Golf course. Many area guest houses and hotels offer discounted greens fees as part of their accommodation package.
One of the top examples is the show at the Funny Girls cabaret and burlesque show bar, where the cast of male dancers – some in drag – are part of the group known as ‘In The Pink Leisure’. Cast members from the Funny Girls have made appearances on television and also before the royal family, at the Royal Variety Performance. The Funny Girls show bar has been the set for some television dramas, such as the BBC programme ‘Blackpool’.
Fishing: whether you’re interested in a quiet afternoon of fishing from the edge of a small pond, braving the swift currents of a river in your waders, or fighting to land a deep-sea trophy – Blackpool has what you’re after.
Take in a Blackpool FC Match: and give a helping hand to this long-suffering team at their stadium on Bloomfield. With any luck, you’ll be able to witness the team on their new-found road to success.
Shopping: the town’s seaside shopping strip, known as the ‘Golden Mile’, features shops selling all sorts of souvenirs and gifts, and ‘Blackpool rock’. You’ll find plenty of amusement arcades along the strip as well.
