April Festivals
Handsworth Park Funfair: in April, a celebration of the beginning of the Sikh religion brings the faithful and other revellers together in Handsworth Park. Starting off by joining in a colourful and boisterous procession, thousands of people enjoy this funfair, where there’s plenty of food on offer as well – for free!
June Festivals
Summer BBC Good Food Festival: in June, the city mounts a major exhibition of the best in summer food and drink, led by a celebrity chef or two. The event is held at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre and is sponsored by the BBC.
July Festivals
Taste of Birmingham: at least 20 of the city’s top restaurants get together in July to stage this four-day event, all about food. Each of the participating chefs prepares a selection of favourite dishes to present to those in attendance at the event in Cannon Hill Park. The popularity of the festival increases each year, and the raves about the food increase as well.
Rath Yatra Festival: this festival, which is one of the world’s oldest, is celebrated in Victoria Square in late July. Originating in India, Rath Yatra involves a chariot procession devoted to Lord Krishna. In Birmingham, the chariots follow a route to Victoria Square, where a massive vegetarian feast is offered, accompanied by loads of entertainment.
