Birmingham Travel Guide - Day Trips
Cannon Hill Park: located to the south of the city, this is a great spot if you’re looking for some relaxation. You can row on the lake, play tennis – or visit the Nature Centre’s underwater observation deck. A bit farther away is the Sutton Park National Nature Reserve, where you can take long walks through the vast woodlands or on the heath.
Ratae Coritanorum: is a reasonable day’s trip away from Birmingham. The city of Leicester was built on Ratae Coritanorum, the original Roman settlement there. Evidence is still visible today of the Roman occupation, particularly at the Jewry Wall, which is the site of the largest Roman bath found in England to date. You’ll find an archaeological museum that features exhibits on the history of Leicester from prehistoric times through the Middle Ages.
