Cadbury World: surrounds this very old chocolate factory that’s located to the south of the city centre, and features as one of Birmingham’s top attractions. In the late 19th century, the Cadbury brothers opened their factory here, and today the story is retold in exhibits found throughout Cadbury World.
Some of the exhibits are interactive and great fun for the kids. The Cadbury brothers built the nearby village of Bournville as well, which stands today as an excellent example of a lovely, garden-filled suburban community.
There are electric trams that take visitors around the site; and boats that make the 40-minute journey down the Dudley Canal Tunnel, exploring limestone caverns along the way.
National Sea Life Centre: an excellent place for the family to visit, and located in the centre of Birmingham, you’ll have amazing views of undersea life from the centre’s unique glass viewing tunnels. Numerous varieties of fish can be seen, as well as other sea creatures such as crabs, sharks, stingrays and giant turtles. A high point of the day here is feeding time. A cafe serving refreshments and a gift shop stocked with souvenirs are provided for visitors as well.
Birmingham Botanical Garden: form a lovely 200-year-old oasis in the Edgbaston area, not far from the University of Birmingham. The manicured and beautifully-landscaped gardens feature several very large glass houses that provide optimum growing environments for a range of cacti, rock gardens and tropical plants; and a number of aviaries are found here as well. There is also a gift shop, a plant nursery and a restaurant on the grounds.
