Introduction to Warwick - City Centre
The city of Warwick, next to Leamington Spa and Whitnash, has been settled since at least the 6th century, and possibly as far back as the Neolithic era. Warwick City Centre hotels are available for visitors during their stay in this historic city 18kms south of Coventry. Few Baptist churches in the world are as old as the 17th century Castle Hill Church, one of the few medieval buildings which survived the city's great fire of 1694, as did the magnificent Beauchamp Chapel where many past Earls of Warwick are entombed. The Collegiate Church of St Mary's tower has dominated the local skyline ever since it was rebuilt shortly after the 1694 fire, and the view from the tower is worth the 134 steps required to reach its summit. The tour of the local castle is said to be Great Britain's best mediaeval experience. Visitors may paddle along the Saltisford Canal Trust's gardens aboard canal boats or enjoy St Nicholas Park's amusement rides and outdoor activities. The Royal Warwickshire Regimental Museum, a reconstructed Victorian classroom, kitchen and surrounding landscaped gardens, are all part of the St John's Museum.
