Introduction to Ulceby, England
The village of Ulceby lies in the eastern reaches of north Lincolnshire, roughly halfway between the small port city of Grimsby and the seaside resort of Scunthorpe. It's a rural village with a population of around 2,500, surrounded by farms, forests, fields and other even smaller villages such as Keelby and Wooton. As with most Lincolnshire settlements, the village and its close-knit community depend on its post office, community centre, village green, church and two pubs for its social life and community activities, and its local 'chippie' and Chinese take-out for impromptu meals. The medieval village church is charming and interesting, with its tall spire and carved stone gateway. Ulceby hotels are represented by a pub offering accommodation and a small bed and breakfast, with more choice in Hadborough and around nearby Humberside Airport. Unusually for a remote village these days, Ulceby still has its own railway station just a mile away, with trains running to Cleethorpes and Barton on Humber.
