Introduction to Todmorden, England
Todmorden is a market town of around 15,000 people on the historic border between Lancashire and Yorkshire, in the Calder Valley and surrounded by the Pennines. It lies just inside West Yorkshire and is famous for its many mills along the streams which flow down from the hills, at one time boasting the world's largest weaving shed. There are several attractions in Todmorden, with the Town Hall which dominates the town centre being an interesting building to visit, while the small Toy & Model Museum can bring childhood memories flooding back. There are a number of wooded areas dotted around the town with a variety of restaurants and cafes to choose from. There are many canals and locks in the area, and outdoor activities such as mountain biking and cycling are extremely popular in the town's surrounding areas. For evening entertainment, the Hippodrome Theatre shows movies as well as live performances. Several Todmorden hotels are located in the town centre, close to the main roads and the train station.
