The town of Thame is ideally located to discover the tranquility and beauty of the Chilterns and Thames areas, and the museums and colleges of Oxford. The town itself is a busy market town where the market area is in a large boat shape. There is a cattle market twice a week and a street market every Tuesday. There are many historic sites within the town, including the Greyhound Inn's original interior wall where John Hampden, the English Civil War hero, died of wounds inflicted during the Battle of Chalgrove Field. Thame Museum is on High Street and shows regular exhibitions including oral history tapes created with local people. You can also find a number of comfortable Thame hotels along High Street. The skyline is dominated by the incredible 13th century St Mary's Church, which is open for public visits most days. The Oxfordshire and Thame Show, including animal shows and circus entertainment, is held annually in the town during July and is now the biggest single-day agricultural show in the country.
