Introduction to Tewkesbury, England
Tewksbury is in the old county of Gloucestershire, not far from the major city of Bristol. The Gloucestershire countryside is some of the finest in England, and hotels in Tewkesbury have that old English country style. This was once an important market town for the area and to some extent, its old world atmosphere lives on. The town can be accessed via the M6 and M50 motorways. Natural attractions such as the River Severn and the Forest of Dean can easily be enjoyed from the town. One of the world’s major wildfowl trusts is located close-by at the Slimbridge Wildfowl Centre. The abbey in town is worth a visit, as is Abel Fletcher's Mill, today converted into apartments. One of the best ways to enjoy the town and its old architecture is on an independent walking tour of the centre, past well-preserved half-timbered houses and Abbey Terrace. The community hosts a busy calendar of events, including a food and drink festival, a medieval festival and a water festival.
