Introduction to Tetbury, England
Built on the site of an ancient hill fort, the Cotswold town of Tetbury in the Middle Ages became the quintessential English market town, wealthy and prominent due to its connections with the wool and cloth trade. Over hundreds of years, members of the English nobility built their country mansions in the Cotswolds and, continuing the tradition, Prince Charles' Highgrove mansion is 'just down the road'. Many heritage buildings remain here, a number of which are still in use, and just outside the town is Westonbirt Arboretum. The town is an antique collectors' heaven, with galleries and centres in and near Long Street crammed with artefacts from long ago. There is a good choice of Tetbury hotels and other accommodation due to the region's popularity with tourists and the town's central position between maritime Bristol, Cheltenham with its famous races, Bath, famed for its Georgian terraces and Roman spa and the pretty towns of Cirencester and Stroud. Even London is just 90 miles to the east via the M4 and M5 motorways.other spellings: tetbuyrhotels, tetbruy otel, tetubry hotel, tebtury hotell, ttebury hote, ettbury hotle
