Introduction to Telford - City Centre
The 'New Town' of Telford lies in the county of Shropshire, 48kms to the west of Birmingham, and was built during the 1960s and 70s. The conurbation is still growing, with a population of around 170,000 at the present time, making it the largest city in the county. The city centre is one giant shopping district, with the Telford Shopping Centre complex set alongside the new Town Park. The city is linked with the giant industrial and commercial West Midlands conurbation by the M54 motorway. The city centre isn't just shops; there are several good restaurants as well as all the usual fast food outlets and pubs serving lunches and dinners. Telford City Centre hotels make a good base for exploring the Industrial Revolution history of Telford's Coalbrookdale area, including the famous Ironbridge Gorge, containing the world's first ever bridge constructed entirely of iron. The gorge and its heritage buildings are now a UNESCO World Heritage site. other spellings: telford otel sity center, telford city hotell, telford hote center, telford hotes in city
