In 2010, well over a million-and-a-half passengers used Southampton Airport, the United Kingdom's 20th biggest, located six and a half kilometres northeast of the city of the same name in the borough of Eastleigh. The closest of the Southampton Airport hotels are is situated near both the M27 motorway and the Southampton Parkway rail station. The first Supermarine Spitfire test flight occurred at this airport in 1936, and a prototype of this iconic aircraft greets visitors at the road entrance. The facility's newest bar and restaurant is named after Spitfire designer RJ Mitchell.
