Introduction to Seascale, England
The small village of Seascale lies along the Cumbrian coastline and is reputed to have been first settled by Vikings 1,000 years ago. A tiny farming community until the coming of the railway in 1850, the village underwent an unsuccessful attempt to develop it as a seaside resort, evidenced by several fine Victorian mansions and rows of terraced cottages. While the village sees little in the way of tourism today, the seafront makes for a pleasant walk. Other activities include golf at the local golf club to the north. Fifteen miles to the north is the port town of Whitehaven, while to the east lies the Lake District National Park, the area's main tourist draw. Keswick is the gateway to the park's northern lakes, from where lovely hikes take walkers around the lakes and through the fells. Guests at Seascale hotels will enjoy the pub grub, such as roast lamb, available at local inns after a daytrip to the Lake District or along the Cumbrian coast. Access to the community is via the A595 or the Cumbrian Coast Line which serves Seascale Railway Station. other spellings: seascaelhotels, otelin seasclae, seasacle hotell, seacsale hote, sesacale
