Introduction to Sandwich, England
Sandwich in Kent was once England's major port but now lies two miles inland. This small town is arguably one of the UK's best preserved medieval towns and has a number of tourist attractions, including its Roman ruins, river trips and excellent walking and cycling routes. The raised eastern-works of the old town walls remains standing and offers a picturesque walk around Sandwich's central conservation area and excellent views of the ancient buildings and Kent peg-tiled roofs. A delightful daytrip is the River Bus, which offers a daily service in the summer to Richborough Roman Fort. It departs from the Old Toll Bridge and gives visitors the chance to take in a different aspect of the town, the River Stour and its wildlife. The Guild Hall, which dates back to Elizabethan times, provides tours of the Ancient Court Room and the Mayor's Parlour, and gives an intriguing insight into Medieval Sandwich. A number of Sandwich hotels are situated in the town centre and offer comfortable accommodation in picturesque surroundings. The town is well known for its golfing tradition, with several excellent courses located near the town. It also sometimes stages the Open golf championships.other spellings: sandwichhotels, otel sndwich, sadwich hotell, sanwich hote, sandich hotes
