Introduction to Oldham, England
Just a few minutes outside of Manchester lies the residential town of Oldham. Once a manufacturing boomtown during England's Industrial Age, the town is now primarily a suburb for people working in the nearby city of Manchester. Much of the downtown district has been built in the classic Victorian style. This is especially visible in the architecture of its lovely Parish Church and the Town Hall, both of which provide important community anchors for the district. The large commons, known as Tommyfield, is where town events, rallies and concerts are held during the warmer months. One of northern England's largest permanent outdoor markets is located in the park. Visitors will find plenty of places to eat and drink, along with a good selection of Oldham hotels for travellers needing accommodation. The surrounding countryside is the highlight of this area, especially the Peak District National Park that borders on the municipality. The reconstructed Castleshaw Roman Fort and the charming weaving village of Uppermill are must-sees when exploring the area.other spellings: oldhamhotels, oaledham otel, ordham hotell, oldhan hote, oldhan hotes, oldhma
