Introduction to Northwich, England
In the centre of Cheshire is the ancient industrial town of Northwich, which can trace its roots all the way back to the Roman era when it served as an important military outpost. During the 17th century, salt mining put the town back on the map. Visitors who are interested in this unique heritage can learn more at the Salt Museum, the only one of its kind in England. While Northwich is not a common tourist destination, its historic downtown core features an interesting neighbourhood of black and white buildings reminiscent of its earlier golden age. The charming Trent and Mersey canal and green woodlands also provide charisma. There is a full range of eateries, bars and shopping options in the town centre along with a handful of useful Northwich hotels. The recently restored Anderton Boat Lift is the newest cultural attraction, located on the northern outskirts of town.
