Introduction to Northallerton, England
In the district of North Yorkshire is the classic market town of Northallerton. The Romans originally established the settlement here, but the hamlet grew in importance during the 11th century as the location of the Battle of the Standard between the English and the Scots. Today, Northallerton is a typical English agricultural town with a pleasant historic high street and regular livestock and farming fairs mixed with biweekly open air markets in the centre of town. Its location in the lush Vale of Mowbray offers plenty of scenic sightseeing for visitors in search of rural England. This agricultural heritage translates into a surprisingly good and diverse dining scene. Plenty of top-notch restaurants, cafes and pubs put the focus on quality and local produce. Northallerton hotels are also noteworthy as many of them are housed in historic buildings that have real character. While driving through the countryside, take time to visit the old Mount Grace Priory, which has its roots in the earliest days of the town.other spellings: northallertnohotels, northallerotn otel, northalletron hotell, northallreton hote, northalelton
