Introduction to Normanton, England
Founded by the Normans, the town of Normanton was originally one of the fortified settlements in the West Yorkshire region. These days, the town serves primarily as a commuter suburb for the city of Leeds thanks to its excellent transport links and cheap housing. Much of the local business here revolves around warehousing and distribution of goods by major national companies. The town itself has little to woo tourists, though there are a fair number of Normanton hotels catering to the transitory nature of its local business. In the area surrounding the town there are a couple of noteworthy historic sites such as the Newland Estate, which was built by King John for the use of the Knights Templars in the 1200s. Today, it's a nature preserve with the beautifully crumbling remains of its palace. All Saints Church, built in 1256, is another impressive architectural attraction that is popular with history fans who pass through the town.other spellings: southnormanton otel, south nomanton hotell, southnomanton hote, south normantan
