Introduction to Newcastle - Jesmond
Located in Newcastle’s attractive northern area, the suburb of Jesmond has become one of the city’s liveliest hubs of culture and activity in recent years. Newcastle Jesmond is renowned for its vibrant nightlife, with a number of top restaurants and cafes drawing crowds for dinner and after-work drinks in the early evening, and some excellent jazz bars and nightclubs entertaining the city’s youth and the young at heart until the wee hours. Osborne Road, which is the main commercial area, is always busy with shoppers making the most of the elegant boutiques that line the road. Visitors can find a good offering of Newcastle hotels in this area as well. The area is a particularly historical part of the city, with some ruins of an old chapel and a well that dates back to the time of the Normans being found in the western side of the suburb.
