Introduction to Newark, England
Newark, also known as Newark-on-Trent, is a centrally-located town along the River Trent, the Great North Road and the East Coast mainline railway. This Nottinghamshire market town's strategic location has helped keep it relevant for centuries, and today it has emerged as a popular commuter town for nearby Nottingham and increasingly London. Rising high above its high street is the gorgeous Church of St Mary Magdalene. The town's pleasant surroundings and excellent transport links makes it a favoured day trip from larger cities like London. Antique hunters often come on weekend to scour the many shops or the massive International Antiques Fair held several times throughout the year. Other highlights include the Millgate Museum, which offers a peek into the cultural past of town, and Newark Castle, which was destroyed during the Civil War by Parliamentarians. A huge selection of classic pubs and inviting eateries can be found all over town, and those who wish to linger can settle down for the night in one of the quaint Newark hotels. other spellings: gnuarkhotels, otelin pneuarc, nuhark hotell, newark hote, neuwarc hotes, newualk
