Introduction to Minehead, England
The coastal hamlet of Minehead is one of the larger settlements in West Somerset. Situated on the southern bank of Bristol Channel, Minehead's history has always been intimately connected to the sea and its industries. These days, it caters more to the tourist set who travel to the south of England to soak up the fresh sea air and all the recreation it offers. Sporting facilities are on hand for sailing, wind surfing and golf. The town is also the starting point for the famous South West Coast Path, one of England's most popular and longest walking trails. Since the town has a positive relationship with the tourism industry, there is a healthy array of restaurants, pubs, shops and other facilities devoted to leisure. Minehead hotels come in many forms, including the Butlins Holiday Camp. Amusement arcades, a busy high street shopping strip and parks like the Blenheim Gardens ensure that there is plenty to do besides activities related to the beautiful sea.
