Introduction to Milton Keynes - City Centre
Originally developed in 1967 as a New Town aimed at reducing housing congestion in London, Milton Keynes encompassed a number of local villages as well as vast swathes of new-build homes, shopping areas and small industrial estates. Now home to around 200,000 residents, its grid design, green spaces and modernist architecture were considered unique at the time. Its city centre was specifically designed as a business and shopping district, rather than a traditional town centre, containing a covered high street, two multiplexes, the council offices, a dedicated business district, a theatre and art gallery and Milton Keynes City Centre hotels serving the business community. The central rail station is also located here, as are sports facilities such as badminton courts, an ice rink used for ice hockey and a covered urban skateboarding area. The central area has free Wi-Fi, and there are a number of pretty parks scattered around all areas of the city. other spellings: miltonkeynes city otel, milton keynes hotell center, miltonkeynes hote city center
