Introduction to Milford Haven, England
The Welsh town of Milford Haven is just one of the many gems of scenic Pembrokeshire, with Pembrokeshire Coast National Park located just to the east. The town's natural harbour has ensured its prosperity since the Middle Ages, with time served as both a Royal Navy and a commercial dock. The town, located on the north shore of Milford Haven Waterway, was developed according to a grid pattern. Among the town's oldest architecture are the 12th century Becon Chapel and the Medieval Priory. Additionally, the town features a number of attractive Georgian properties as well as 19th century terrace houses. Perhaps the most notable landmark, however, is the 19th century Fort Hubberstone at Gelliswick Bay. Yet the oldest of the town's heritage buildings is the dockside Custom House, dating to 1797. The best views across the Haven are from The Rath, a street that takes in land that was once used as a gun battery. Milford Haven hotels offer a comfortable base for visitors to this westernmost area of South Wales, especially those en route to the nearby national park.
