Overview
This charming hotel and spa is housed in a country dwelling dating back to the reign of William III and comprises a total of 29 rooms. It is close to the city and is set on 20 acres of its own gardens and parkland. Built in 1699, it was once the home of the famous diarist, Lady Mary Wortley Montagu. After a period of neglect, the hotel was purchased and restored by Historic House Hotels who also own Hartwell House, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and Bodysgallen Hall, North Wales. The house is now decorated with antiques and fine pictures carefully chosen as consistent with the period of the house itself. The gardens and parklands have also been restored and include ha-has, a white garden, a walled garden, a small lake and some beautiful specimen trees. Facilities on offer to guests include a lobby area with a 24-hour reception and check-out service, a hotel safe, a cloakroom and lift access. It also offers a bar, a restaurant and conference facilities and guests may take advantage of the room and laundry services. There is parking available for those arriving by car.
