Introduction to Masham, England
The North Yorkshire community of Masham in the United Kingdom contains quite a fair share of attractions and history for its small size. Throughout the centuries, the town has been settled by Romans, Saxons, and Vikings, and its St Mary's Church was originally established during the seventh century. Although this church was rebuilt in the 15th century, its prayer cross and much of its stone work are still centuries older. There are also a surprisingly large number of Masham hotels for such a small community, most of which are either grand country estates or more intimate guesthouses. These hotels are busiest during Masham's three major festivals, which are its annual September sheep fair, its biannual arts festival, and its steam engine and fair organ rally. The town is also home to one of Great Britain's oldest markets, which is still open to customers every Wednesday and Saturday, and two working breweries located just a few metres apart from each other.
