Introduction to Market Drayton, England
Gingerbread is one of the biggest claims to fame in the North Shropshire town of Market Drayton, both in the town's famous gingerbread recipe which has been top secret for at least 200 years and the red and white architecture of many of the town's oldest buildings. These buildings include 10 Market Drayton hotels, most of which are picturesque country inns, manors, cottages, farms, and bed and breakfast establishments. Wednesdays are the busiest days of the week in town, when its main street is closed off to host the weekly market, among the liveliest in the area. A 14th century sandstone church stands on top of the steep Phoenix Bank, while the Buttercross stone portico still has the same fire bell which rang during a 1651 fire which destroyed most of the town's buildings. An even more ancient landmark, the Devil's Ring and Finger standing stones from the Neolithic era, lies only five kilometres outside of town. The Murder and Mayhem and Children's Wild Animal Adventure trails explore different sides of this quiet community. other spellings: market draytonhotels, maket draton otel, maket drayton hotell, marketdraton
