Introduction to Market Bosworth, England
The small Leicestershire town of Market Bosworth in the centre of England may be most famous as the location of the 1485 Battle of Bosworth, the last battle during the Wars of the Roses, but this town's history is actually several centuries older. Although the settlement was officially established during the 8th century, the location of Roman villa ruins indicates it was settled at a much earlier time. Whether they are stately inns, self catering establishments, or more casual cottages, most Market Bosworth hotels are actually located short distances outside the town centre, as are the majority of local attractions. The actual site of the Battle of Bosworth is situated in the nearby village of Upton, while the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre can be found in the community of Sutton Cheney. The adventure playground, arboretum, lake, and footpaths of Market Bosworth Country Park can be found just east of the community centre, but west of town lies another lake belonging to the Bosworth Water Trust.
