Introduction to Lyme Regis, England
Lyme Regis is a quiet and picturesque seaside resort located halfway between the towns of Exeter and Dorchester on Cobb Harbour. The town is situated on the borders of southern England's Devon and Dorset regions. Nearly half of the population of this town, known as 'the Pearl of Dorset', are retired and Lyme Regis hotels welcome guests throughout the year, although summer rates are generally more expensive than those during the rest of the year. Jane Austen fans will recognise the harbour wall of Lyme Regis, the Cobb, from her Persuasion novel, while the nearby Jurassic coast has become a World Heritage site not only for its breathtaking scenery, but also for the number of fossils situated on its beaches and cliffs. Visitors may learn more about these fossils at the Lyme Regis Museum housed inside the birthplace of renowned palaeontologist Mary Anning or the Dinosaurland Fossil Museum inside a former church. The town's watermill first operated in 1340, but has only been recently restored to once again make flour. A small brewery also recently opened inside the Town Mill.other spellings: lyme regishotels, lyne regis hote, lymeregis hotes, lyme rigis hotell, lime regis otel
