Introduction to Lydney, England
The Gloucestershire community of Lydney along the River Severn, the longest river in the United Kingdom, has been a settled area since the Bronze Age, and a Roman temple still stands alongside the rhododendrons and azaleas at Park Spring Gardens. Most Lydney hotels are cottages, country houses, apartments, or farms, but all of them are willing to welcome guests to this thriving transportation hub situated near the Severn Bridge and several major motorways near the Forest of Dean. The oldest of the town's many churches is the 13th century Parish Church of St Mary, whose tower is one of the first things visitors see when entering the community. Several of the ships constructed to fight against the Spanish Armada during the 16th century sailed for the first time in Lydney Harbour, while Lydney Park Spring Gardens contains Roman ruins and museums as well as fragrant gardens. The Dean Forest Railway regularly travels between Lydney Junction and the nearby community of Parkend.
