Luton is well placed for travelling to a number of places and London is only 40 minutes away by train. The town is well known for its airport and not surprisingly many of the hotels in Luton belong to the major chains. The town has a long tradition of hat making and, although the industry has greatly declined, there are still a couple of factories keeping the trade alive. When it opened in the early 1970s, the Arndale centre was the biggest European indoor shopping centre and it has a large market inside. After a hard days retail therapy there are some great hotels in Luton where you can relax and unwind. Luton is surrounded by beautiful countryside ideal for walkers. To the north there is a woodland hill named the Clappers and to the west the Dunstable Downs border Chilterns, a popular place gliding and walking and a short drive from many Luton hotels.
