Introduction to Ludlow, England
The small town of Ludlow contains no fewer than 500 officially listed historic buildings and two Michelin starred restaurants. It is strategically located not only near the borders of the English counties of Herefordshire and Shropshire, but also very close to England's border with Wales. Out of all of the town's historic buildings, none is more famous than the impressive Ludlow Castle which towers over the River Teme and where several Princes of Wales once stayed. Although the castle no longer has permanent residents, the public is welcome to explore its remains. Other historic structures here include St Laurence Church, the largest in Shropshire, and several Ludlow hotels, many of which are situated in buildings dating back to medieval times. These are especially busy in summer when the annual town festival takes place and when visitors enjoy rowing rented boats along the River Teme. Each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, a market takes place in the town's Castle Square.
