Introduction to Lostwithiel, England
The name of Lostwithiel, a picturesque community in southwest England, is said to mean 'tail of a wooded area' in Cornish, the ancient language once spoken by most people in the Cornwall region. The town was once the capital and most important community in Cornwall, and remnants of this history still remain. The most significant buildings include St Bartholomew's Church, whose impressive tower dates back to the 13th century, and the circular Restormel Castle where the Earl of Cornwall once lived. Ruins of an even older Roman fort were discovered not far from Restormel Castle in 2007, but visitors can learn even more local history at the small museum. The town's main bridge has five pointed arches and has spanned the River Fowey since the early 14th century. Lostwithiel hotels range from modest self- catering accommodation to stately and luxurious inns and everything in between. The town also hosts a number of festivals, from October cider and food festivals to a week long summer carnival and even a December tribute to Charles Dickens.other spellings: lostwithilehotels, otel lostwtihiel, lostwitheil hotell, lostwitihel hote, lostwihtiel hotes
