Introduction to London - Camden
For at least the last half-century, the London borough of Camden has been the alternative hub of the city, with its famous markets and music venues supporting hippie, punk, Goth and many other wacky cultures. Nowadays, it's the most vibrant and fascinating inner borough in the entire mega-city. Traditionally a working-class area, Camden district itself is best known for Camden Town, home to the huge street markets in Camden High Street and Chalk Farm Road selling everything from rip-off designer gear to homewares, souvenirs, antiques, bric-a-brac, music and DVDs. It's a major hub for nightlife as well, with visitors staying in Camden hotels situated close to the action. The King's Cross area of the district holds two major intercity rail and underground stations, King's Cross and Euston. Since a major upgrade, it is now an upscale destination. The entire district has a strong community feel and is home to a huge selection of restaurants serving varied cuisines, lively music pubs and alternative clubs and night-time venues.
