Introduction to Leeds - City Centre
An important centre of British industry and commerce for centuries, Leeds has a thriving city centre that is currently undergoing something of a revival. The downtown is roughly divided into five quarters, each with its own focus such as culture or shopping. The Civic Quarter contains two of the city’s main landmarks: Millennium Square and Leeds Civic Hall. Most visitors spend their time in the Shopping Quarter, where a lively mix of international chains and local independent shops keep consumers busy. Briggate is a main street in this quarter, hosting some of the city’s most famous shopping arcades like Victoria Quarter and Thornton Arcade. On the eastern flank of the city centre is the Cultural Quarter, with interesting attractions such as the Royal Armouries and the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Besides banking services, the Financial Quarter is one of the best places to find Leeds City Centre hotels, top restaurants along Park Row and East Parade, and a lively nightlife scene on Greek Street.Visit our Leeds Travel Guide
