Introduction to Launceston, England
The pretty town of Launceston can be found in the county of Cornwall in western England, and is bursting with local charm and colour. Built by the original Norman Earl of Cornwall, Brian Bretagne in the 11th century, the town's towering castle is one of its most famous landmarks, and this is a great place for visitors to start their trip. Also of interest is the 16th century church known as St Mary Magdalene, which features intricately carved interiors, while taking a ride on the Launceston Steam railway in the summer is a great way to see the surrounding area. While excellent Launceston hotels can be found all over the town, many visitors tend to base themselves in one of the establishments located around Launceston College. The town is also famed for its outstanding eateries, which serve up everything from fish and chips to Indian and Creole cuisine.
