Introduction to Lancaster - City Centre
The county town of Lancashire is Lancaster, set on the River Lune in the north of the county and encompassing several smaller towns, including the seaside resort of Morecambe. A cultural and commercial centre for many hundreds of years, Lancaster has unique connections with the British Monarchy, with the present Queen also the Duke of Lancaster. Lancaster Castle dominates the townscape, the last of many fortifications beginning with a Roman fort on the river ford. As the gateway to the Lake District, the town is easily accessible from the M6 motorway for visitors wishing to explore the magnificent castle. For those wishing to stay longer, Lancaster City Centre hotels offer typical northern friendliness and hospitality. The city centre holds all the usual department stores, small shops, a multiplex and a regular weekly market selling fresh produce, foodstuffs, crafts, fashions and more. Another landmark in the centre is the 18th century stone aqueduct carrying the canal over the river, running north for a mile. other spellings: lancasterhotels city center, hote city lancastor, lencaster hotell center, lancastur otel
