Introduction to Lake District - Bowness on Windermere
The Lake District National Park is one of the most beautiful regions of England, with its many lakes, rivers, fells and small towns set in glorious countryside. A popular destination for domestic and international visitors alike, Lake Windermere is one of its largest bodies of water. The ancient Cambrian town of Bowness on Windermere abuts neighbouring Windermere town but operates as a separate municipality, with its own historic town centre lined with half-timbered and Georgian homes, shops, pubs, restaurants and Bowness on Windermere hotels. Two of the prettiest heritage buildings here are the parish church of St Martin's and its former rectory, both dating from the 15th century. The town's other major attraction is the Windermere ferry, connecting with Ambleside via a trip across the still lake with its breathtaking views of the fells. From Ambleside, Keswick and remote Grasmere are accessible by local bus. Other must-sees in the area include the Beatrix Potter Museum and the Windermere Steamboat Museum. other spellings: bowness on windermere otel, bowniss windermere hotell, bownes on windermer
