The popular visitor destination of the Isle of Portland lies in the English Channel, permanently connected to the mainland at Chesil Beach by a gravel strip. Set five kilometres from the seaside town of Weymouth and close to Portland, the area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Jurassic Coast.
