Located on the estuary of the River Orwell, Ipswich is a town in the southeast of Suffolk in the very east of the UK. The outskirts of the town lie close to the A14 road in mainly residential areas punctuated by parks and the river as it flows into the North Sea. The suburbs stretch furthest to the east along Main Road, which hits the A12 road and along with the A14 forms the outer ring of the town. Ipswich outskirts include Ipswich Golf Club, close to Foxhall and Ransomes Industrial Estate, beside which is a good selection of accommodation as well as another commercial area, Ransomes Europark. Ipswich hotels on the outskirts are mostly concentrated in this southeastern area of the town's suburbs and also due south on the western bank of the Orwell River on and around the A137 on the way to the Alton Water Reservoir. Local attractions around the town include Flatford, to the southwest by 10 miles and where the setting of one of Constable's most famous paintings is situated. The Anglo Saxon burial ground of Sutton Hoo, to the northeast, is also within reach.
