Introduction to Hertford, England
Birthplace of the town's founder, Samuel Stone, Hertford is only 20 miles from London. In contrast to the bustling capital, the town is traditional and peaceful, with a great deal of historical buildings and points of interest for visitors to discover. The town may be small but it conveniently boasts two railway stations which provide frequent connections from locations such as Kings Cross and Liverpool Street stations in London. If visitors intend to drive to the town they can easily do so as the M25 London ring road enables drivers to travel from Heathrow, Stansted or Gatwick airports within 45 minutes. Most Hertford hotels are within walking distance to the town's most popular sights and attractions including the ruined 1st century castle and Shire Hall, which was constructed in 1779.
