Introduction to Hemel Hempstead - Bourne End
The ancient shire county of Hertfordshire holds many pretty villages, with large towns such as Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamstead set on major trunk roads such as the A41. The small village of Bourne End lies along this main road, equidistant from these two large towns. The Bourne Gutter, a small stream that flows to the community's north, allegedly only flows into the River Bulbourne during times of strife according to local legend. The stream last flowed in 1992 during the Gulf War and previously in 1945 at the end of WWII. Bourne End hotels give good access to nearby large towns and London via nearby Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamstead rail stations. Hemel Hempstead, less than three miles away, features an old town with rows of painted terraced cottages. This area is mentioned in the Domesday Book and has a good number of medieval buildings, including the 12th century Norman St Mary's Church with its soaring spire. The High Street is lined with Georgian buildings and quaint small shops and pubs. other spellings: bourne endhotels, burne end otel, borne end hotell, bourn end hote, berne end hotes
