Introduction to Hartfield, England
The East Sussex village of Hartfield lies on the northern side of Ashdown Forest, 10kms south of the historic spa town of Tunbridge Wells on the B2026. Its most famous son was AA Milne, author of the Winnie the Pooh children's books, featuring the much-loved bear and his friends. After the author's death, his home, Cotchford Farm, was bought by Rolling Stone guitarist Brian Jones, and was the location of his death in 1969. Nearby Bolebroke Castle is connected with Henry VIII, who hunted boar and deer in Ashdown Forest and courted Anne Boleyn in his spare time. It's a pretty village, typical of East Sussex, with its narrow High Street, village green and picturesque pubs. Its parish church is worth a visit for its tall tower and spire and attractive interior, with Hartfield hotels giving access to the forest for walkers and nature-lovers. Tunbridge Wells is a short drive away, famed for its medieval and Georgian architecture, antiques shops and fine restaurants. other spellings: htfieldhotels, hafield otel, hatield hotell, hatfeld hote, hatfild hotes, hatfied hotle
