Introduction to Guildford - City Centre
The ancient town of Guildford, the county town of Surrey, is now part of the suburban sprawl of London, home to a huge number of commuters daily cramming the rail services to the heart of the great city. Once a Saxon town hosting the Royal Mint, it's located on the River Wey on a gap in the North Downs. The ruins of Saxon Guildford Castle guard the Pilgrims' Way though the hills and the ford over the river, an important military location. Nowadays, the city centre is a bustling High Street paved with granite setts and containing department stores, shops, restaurants, pubs and Guildford City Centre hotels. The traditional weekend market still takes place on Fridays and Saturdays, with a farmers' market a monthly addition. The downtown district is known for its culture, with art galleries, many antiques shops and the well-known Yvonne Arnauld Theatre, home to pre- and post-West End productions. other spellings: guideford otel citycenter, guideford city hotell, guidford hote center, guidford hotes
