The little town of Fordingbridge is set on the beautiful River Avon, on the edge of Hampshire's New Forest, close to the county borders with Wiltshire and Dorset and 16kms from Salisbury. This is the historic heart of England, with the New Forest one of only two Royal woodlands remaining from the ancient forests which once covered the land. Fordingbridge was once renowned for its smugglers, with the infamous Captain Diamond spending most of his free time in a local pub. The magnificent medieval seven-arched Great Bridge spans the Avon just upstream from the ford.
