Introduction to Fordingbridge, England
The little town of Fordingbridge is set on the beautiful River Avon, on the edge of Hampshire's New Forest, close to the county borders with Wiltshire and Dorset and 16kms from Salisbury. This is the historic heart of England, with the New Forest one of only two Royal woodlands remaining from the ancient forests which once covered the land. Fordingbridge was once renowned for its smugglers, with the infamous Captain Diamond spending most of his free time in a local pub. The magnificent medieval seven-arched Great Bridge spans the Avon just upstream from the ford. Fordingbridge hotels are popular with visitors to this picturesque town, with guests enjoying walks along the river banks and visits to Fordingbridge Museum, the town's Norman village church and the nearby Roman villa. The most popular destination is the breathtaking New Forest itself, with its unique little ponies, deer and wild boar roaming among the ancient trees, open heaths and unspoilt clearings. Within the forest are tiny settlements bound by the rules of the foresters themselves. other spellings: fordingbridgehotels, fordimgbridge otel, fordingbrideg hotell, fordingbrigde hote
