Introduction to Folkestone - City Centre

Located on the coast in the far southwest of England in Kent, Folkestone for many is the gateway to the continent as the entrance to the Channel Tunnel and a town lying close to the ferry terminal at Dover. Although most people come to load their cars onto trains at the Channel Tunnel, many stay to see the numerous attractions the town has to offer. Visitors can ride the Cliff Lift, a wonder of Victorian engineering which traverses the coastal area with superb views of the sea. To see the town at a more leisurely pace on foot, head to Lower Leas Coastal Park during summer and enjoy its idyllic walks and main amphitheatre, which provides free musical and theatre entertainment. Folkestone also has an excellent beach close to the main marina which has won awards for cleanliness. Folkestone city centre hotels unsurprisingly offer an array of options, with almost all sat right on the seafront with views of the channel.
