Introduction to Eye, England
The Old English word Eye means island, which this historic town in Suffolk used to be. Historically this small town was just a castle and a tower surrounded by water and marshland and today it is one of England's most ancient towns. The 14th century Church of St Peter and St Paul is one of the best in the county and is known for its magnificent choir screen. The town is situated just off the A140 midway between Ipswich and Norfolk and is a great place to stop and visit while driving between the two larger towns. The town houses a post office, a library, a picnic site and a British Women's Institute market as well as many recreational facilities such as a skateboard park and walking paths. There is limited accommodation here; visitors can stay in Eye hotels or bed and breakfasts that are conveniently located near the town centre and amenities.
