Introduction to Elland, England
The West Yorkshire town of Elland can trace its recorded history directly back to its mention in the Domesday Book, but it seems to have lost its feeling for its ancient and interesting heritage. Set on the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation (canal), it is home to around 16,000 people and surrounded by rolling moorland. Famous for its flagstones which were transported all over England via the canal system, it still has a few buildings of interest, including its Old Town Hall, the parish church, the former Rose and Crown Inn, the 19th century Methodist church and the most picturesque of all, the Fleece Inn. Elland hotels provide a convenient location for business travellers to nearby Halifax who would rather stay outside town, and for visitors keen to explore the surrounding countryside. Close to the M62 motorway, the town gives good access to Manchester, Chester and the Derbyshire Peak District. other spellings: elandhotels, otelin leand, erand hotell, rerand hote, elrand hotes, lleand hotle
