Introduction to Easingwold, England
The tiny market town of Easingwold lies at the foot of the Howardian Hills, some 20kms north of York. The town has ancient royal connections, as King John had a hunting lodge nearby and the now disappeared Forest of Galtres was his private hunting precinct. Easingwold hotels make great bases for exploring the Yorkshire Dales as well as the wild North Yorkshire moors and the stunning city of York with its massive York Minster, one of the largest cathedrals in England. The little town's hidden Georgian gem is its market square, surrounded with Georgian buildings, a little treasure of the rich Yorkshire heritage. Easingwold is becoming known for its fine restaurants and delicatessens, with a recent article in a UK upscale newspaper being more than complimentary. A notable landmark here is the ruined medieval Byland Abbey. The magnificent city of York is just a short drive away, with its rich Roman, Viking and medieval heritage and bustling city centre.
